Boxing fans where looking forward to a tasty year ahead, with many fights already scheduled the cream on the top was the mega fight scheduled for March 13, between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Now the fight seems to be on its knees, accusations of steroid use has resulted in Manny Pacquiao filling a law suit of deformation of character, so by March 13 the both may meet but not in a Boxing ring.
You have to question the motives behind the accusations from the Mayweather camp, if they wanted tests to be carried out by the Olympic U.S. Anti Dopers Association (USADA), they could have approached things in a totally different manor. In life when you accuse someone of something what reaction would you expect?
My personal opinion is this whole saga is nothing more than a ploy to try and generate more interest in the fight, this story is everywhere, websites, blogs, you tube absolutely everywhere we boxing fans go for a fix we are met with this continuing story. Now a law suit has been filed this story will go beyond the sport itself and will generate an interest in the public domain.
Mr Mayweather known as “Money” Mayweather has in nearly every single interview made his whole persona clear to the world, the main interest in this man’s mind-set is not legacy, is not fighting the best, is not the love for the sport in which he participates but his main interest is one single thing MONEY.
Let’s rewind to July 18, 2009 when Floyd Mayweather returned from retirement and was due to fight against Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez, the fight was postponed due to a supposed rib injury suffered by Mayweather in training. The fight was re-scheduled for September 19, 2009.
Days before this date and during an interview Brian Kenny of ESPN, Mayweather was asked a simple question “Are ready to fight Floyd how is the rib and how did you injure it” said Kenny. Mayweather answered like a politician refusing to answer a simple question, he was on the defensive (this time out-side the ropes). His reaction to a genuine question showed he had something to hide, could it be there were no injury and the actual reason for faking an injury was to generate more time to sell a failing PPV card.
Since the row began, Team Mayweather has had the support of Golden Boy’s chief negotiator, Richard Schaefer, in their demand that Pacquiao submit to Olympic-standard random blood tests. Yet Schaefer steadfastly objected to blood tests for the shamed Shane Mosley only two years ago. Overnight, almost, Schaefer has become an avenging angel for the anti-drugs lobby.
