Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao arrived home in Manila Thursday after a heartbreaking draw with his Mexican opponent, Juan Marquez.
Pacquiao’s plane touched down at early dawn, around 4:30 a.m, and was given a hero’s welcome by airport employees, supporters, relatives and sports officials.
The Filipino fighter broke the good news that there was a big chance that the Las Vegas boxing commission will reverse its decision by handing him the win over Marquez. Team Pacquiao has filed a protest before the Las Vegas boxing body citing the admission of one of the judges that he committed a scoring error.
Pacquiao said he was still looking forward to a rematch with Marquez but stressed it will have to take place in Manila.
He said a reversal in the ruling will force Marquez to finally agree to a rematch after his handlers had initially ruled out another fight.
Pacquiao said he will take a month hiatus before resuming training.
