GL: Always a pleasure to hear from you Superman. What’s the latest and greatest? “The latest and greatest with Super Judah is I’m just training and staying focused. Right now I’m spending time with my family for Christmas. This is my son’s first Christmas actually, I didn’t talk about the Mayweather-Pacquiao business and I kept my name out of it. But now I see this fight going sour, so now I’m ready to lend a helping hand to Pacquiao and let them know that if they’re looking for a good fight, I’m always here. GL: Is Zab Judah here without any additonal testing?
Zab Judah: “I think the natural tests we take in boxing is fine. I believe he is a man of God like myself and I just thnk he’s not jeopardizing that. And I take the man for his word. If he says he’s not on it, then he’s not on it. Sometimes God works in mysterious ways.
GL: How do you feel about Mayweather asking him to take Olympic style drug testing going above and beyond the Commission requirements? Do you think he’s pushing his luck?
ZJ: “I think it’s Team Mayweather’s decision and they’re allowed to make their own decisions. What they do over there is what they do. Over here we do things different. I don’t knock them for doing what they do and hopefully they won’t knock me for doing what I do.”
GL: How does Pacquiao-Judah play out?
ZJ: “I think it’s an excellent fight. You have two of the fastest, hardest hitting left handers in the game today. A lot of my losses came from me beating myself. I feel at this point in time right now, I’m back in the working hard stages. A fight like this fight is destiny. It’s a good fight for us. It’s a great fight at 140 or 147 and we can make it work.”
GL: Does Pac-man go the distance?
ZJ: “At this point in time there’s no need for that distance talk or anything. I think the most important thing right now is making the fight. Once we make the fight we’ll figure all that out.”
GL: So in other words we’re in the politically correct stage, if we get a signed contrac then we’ll chat about where he goes, correct?
ZJ: “Exactly.”
GL: Are you disappointed that a fight the magnitude of Mayweather-Pacquiao that was getting all of this positive attention has been tainted with all of these steroid allegations?
ZJ: “I think the steroid situation is taking away from what would have been one of the biggest fights in history. I got God on my side and I’ve never cheated or used any supplements, so I feel like any other fighter feels, let’s go in there and do what we do. That’s it.”
GL: Paulie Malignaggi is the other name that seems to be getting a lot of attention as it relates to Pacquiao. Do you feel you deserve the fight more than Paulie?
ZJ: “Of course. I think my legacy in boxing and what I’ve done for boxing is way more than what Paulie has done. Not throwing no wrenches at Paulie. I let Paulie get his shine on, I don’t talk about these guys, they’re my friends and boxing business partners. When I say partners, I mean that we’re going to lock up one day since we’re in the same weight class. I think I would bring a more exciting fight than Paulie would.”
GL: Closing thoughts?
ZJ: “I’m ready for March and if Manny Pacquiao and his people want to test him against an exciting, fast, strong fighter, Zab Judah is here.”
