But judging from the stance of the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), the probability that Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines will wrest the championship belts from Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico via appeal is close to nil.
Murad Muhammad, head honcho of M&M Sports that promotes Pacquiao?s fights in the US, expressed his intentions to the NSAC to give his Filipino ward a favorable split decision after judge Burt Clements admitted that he erroneously scored the first-round of the Pacquiao-Marquez fight.
Clements, the Reno-based judge, scored the round, 10-7, instead of the mandatory 10-6 score for rounds where a fighter falls thrice. Had Clements scored it 10-6, his 12-round total would have been 113-112, and that meant Pacquiao would have stripped the Mexican titleholder of both the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) belts.
