Yo G Im not a long time follower but I appreciate the opinions of you and other writers on the site. For you to say “I don’t think he should have to do anything that isn’t mandated by the Commission that will be selecting the judges.” Tell’s me you dont know the difference in Olympic style testing compared to standard boxing testing. Remember baseball fans thought the same thing before they started this type of testing. There are PED’s that cant be detected by urine analysis only. If there are PED’s that only blood can show whats wrong with a boxer wanting to explores those avenues. You see Shane Mosley got away with using PED’s in the past and every time you turn around there is a new one that beats standard drug testing. No fighter should have to be in the ring with someone who possibly used PED’s. The Olympic style testing will eliminate this as a threat. That’s why i don’t understand your point of view on this issue. Just because the las vegas commission says its ok does not mean there testing for PED’s outside of steroids. There are more designer drugs today than ever before. Sure steroids can be detected with urine, but all PED’s cannot. Peace Boog
Leon’s Response: I do the know the difference, but I also know that until it becomes mandated for all major fights,which it should, Mayweather is not bigger than boxing and should not be allowed to arbitrarily implement new standards because he says so. New standards, that more than hint that his opponent needs to be checked in order for this to be a fair fight.
Yes Roy went up 30 pounds.. but he didn’t walk through Ruiz’s punches, his punch output didn’t stay the same or increase… thats the difference in what Manny is doing and what Roy did. Its more than the weight. If Roy went up and stood in front of Ruiz and laugh at getting hit repeatedly, I would have raised some eyebrows. Had he hit Ruiz with 3 or 4 punches and dropped himwithin 3 rounds something would have been up. But Roy didn’t. He boxed him and won because he was faster and smarter (and the refs wouldn’t let Ruiz hold). Manny is destroying guys. We’ve never seen anything like this. Is it all natural? Could be. But I think ou have to acknowledge the era in which we live in man. Every day something pops up where our top athletes are being caught associated with doping.
Leon’s Response: Other than Cotto who’s punches did Pacquiao walk through? Roy went from 60-75 and his punch output stayed the same or increased for many years before he went to heavyweight for one fight and I do remember Roy bucklig Ruiz in that fight. I believe better testing should be mandated, but that’s going to take a while.
Logic, Leon, Logic!…You and I have seen too many fights and fighters’ careers to know, or not know better….Alexis Arguello, Roberto Duran, Wilfredo Gomez, Hector Camacho, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley, Oscar De La Hoya, Erick Morales, etc., etc., etc….They all went up in weight, did very good, but not as good as they did in their previous weight classification..They all look fatter, or sluggier, slower, or lost their punching power and the bottom line is that something was lost….The ones that did better like Mayweather, or Roy Jones, were taller to start with, or started in a much bigger weight…The sports media wants to tell me now that Manny Pacquiao with his 5′ 6 1/2″ frame, and who started his career in the flyweight division, was KO two times in his career by unknowns, “won” very exciting fights but had his hands full with most, lost two fights, but was credited by the HBO backed shady judging with a draw and a “victory”, went up 3 more weight classifications, making it 7 in total, and became even ripper, trimmer, faster, sharper, and punched harder, training 1 1/2 months and consuming 80 calories a day, and without a drop of steroids juice? Leon, whoever sold you guys that one, stole yours and everybody else’s money.The White Corporate American Sports Media in conjunction with the HBO Mafia concluded that Manny’s style was too exciting to let it go to waste and he was to become the chosen one , the Filipino Kid turned Caucasoid white in order to blow all the Hispanics away, and for future Money Making Football Fields’ Packed Mega Extravaganzas, so now they are looking the other way when Manny goes into his secret laboratory. Leon’s Response: I think Pacquiao looked like a tornado from the first Barrera fight. I’m thinking that he’s actually dedicated to his craft, still fights like the hugrier fighter and now that he has two hands to hurt you with he’s twice as dangerous. I think that since he’s shorter and faster than everybody he’s faced at the higher weights, when he makes them miss him they’re already aiming low and wide open for fast counter shots they never see. Like Mayweather, Pacquiao is somebody that can’t be mirrored in sparring. You speak as though you, but all you’re doing is speculating, hard core.
This is my first time ever posting a comment on your site & what compels me to speak up is this funny little feeling I got in my gut after the refusal to the Olympic style Tests that team Pacquiao seems to dread so much. Look I know that many people are going to say that he shouldn’t have to subject himself to all these extra tests but like someone else said before me Mosley, Barry Bonds, Marion Jones and many other world class athletes have taken steroids and pretty much fooled the detection procedures completely until some lab got raided. So all the nonsense that Arum is spewing about urine analysis being more than sufficient is BS since Mosley in the same sport passed All OF THEM everytime. I love Pacquiao as a fighter and I respect him because he is a very humble person but the refusal sits kind of weird in my gut because I was sure that he would completely agree with the testing since he had nothing to hide but now since he refused it kind of seems suspicious because Floyd is willing to take the same exact tests. Plus the tests do not in any way hurt or hinders an atheletes performance at all.
Leon’s Response: You’re right, but why hasn’t that become the case until Mayweather’s team made it an issue. When was the first Pac is on something written? Again, it would be a shame if the fight is lost over somethig so miniscule.
G you seem real haterish towards Floyd lately from what I can tell from your comments is because he won’t work with BT right now; and from your attitude I can see why don’t gey me wrong you are the best at what you do but you are taking this a little to personal. According to Arum, the phobia of needles is right before the fight because of previous unpleasant experience. One thing Manny does much better than Floyd is keep the casual fan watching with interest. Mayweather’s rounds tend to be carbon copies of the previous frame until the late rounds. I had long ago said I would no longer visit because of the constant Ishe Smith coverage (He’s an okay fighter but you guys treat him like the GOAT). However, I have to call you on your BS. I’d like to start off by saying that this whole situation with Pacquiao and Mayweather is a travesty. This fight was suppose to be something great for boxing, something bigger than any overhyped De La Hoya fight, this was suppose to be a real fight. But, thanks to the Pound for Pound biggest b**ch on the planet ‘Floyd Mayweather’, the biggest fight in history is down the tubes. Floyd Mayweather has no right to force Pacquiao into taking Olypmic style drug testing not ever required by any other boxer. He’s not only taken this away from the fans, hes hurting the sport of boxing. I’m sure if Floyd could afford to take another year off, he’d be campaigning all over the country for mandatory Olympic testing, but what do you want from the man? LMAO.
