Who would have thought we would be referring back to the Manny Pacquiao – Miguel Cotto negotiations last summer as the good old days?
I’m holding out hope that this trick can be turned for the March 13 date as originally planned. Monday we’ll be 67 days out from that date and as you know I have been comparing this “Fight of the Century” with the last “Fight of the Century,” Ali – Frazier I on March 8, 1971 periodically.
And 67 is also the number of days out promoters had to put that epic event together and they certainly pulled it off. That was before e-mail, ESPN, and cell phones.
So if everything else is settled except for the blood and urine testing, this can be done barring any training camp injuries.
Top Rank and Golden Boy need only look to Dallas, Texas to see the economy is starting to boom again. Otherwise how can you explain the Dallas Cowboys and the City of Irving having actually sold the title – sponsor rights to Kraft Foods, Inc. for the scheduled March implosion of 70,000 seat Texas Stadium, the former home of the Cowboys.
Obviously if Dallas got the fight, the scheduled March 2010 – $5.8 million Texas Stadium “Cheddar Explosion” would have been on the press tour of things to see while in Big D because we don’t have a casino within 60 miles of JerryWorld.
