Mighty Roach might have to swallow strong words

During a recent interview trainer Freddie Roach made it loud and clear that if Floyd Mayweather weighed in above the contracted limit for a proposed fight with Manny Pacquiao, he would pull the plug on the fight.

Easy to say, hard to do Mr. Roach.

The boxing wizard Roach is well intended in his comments, trying to protect his fighter, and make Mayweather Junior put in the sacrafice to make weight – an ordeal which can tax the body and make or break a fighter’s chances at victory.

Yet when millions upon millions of dollars have been put into a super-fight, and event, pulling the plug over a few pesky pounds is tough to do.

Though the date and site of the fight between Manny and Mayweather is not set, I am sure whoever plops down twenty or more million of dollars to host the fight will put pressure on Roach, or any party, potentially trying to cancel a fight 24 hours before the first bell.

Not to mention how Mr. Pacquiao would feel if his million dollar pay check is ripped into shreds because a fight did not materialize. In the end, Pacquiao will decide to fight, or not, if Mayweather tips the scales above the contracted weight.

Coach Roach, talk is cheap, and talk of canceling a multi-million dollar fight on the scales, is foolish.
