The Pacquiao-Jinky kiss

THERE has been intermittent debate on merits of kissing with open or closed eyes. With published photos showing boxing champ Manny Pacquiao locking lips with wife Jinky, arguments are likely to fly again.

Her eyes were open. Manny’s must’ve been open too but cameras focused on the face of Jinky, with whom he has been feuding over a sexy starlet (who illicitly came with the luggage when he flew to Las Vegas for that Nov. 15 fight).

The kiss, staged when the Pacquiaos returned to Manila Friday, was obviously aimed to dispel doubts they were quarrelling over another woman. With Jinky’s eyes open, did the intent succeed?

The kiss was suspicious. The couple hadn’t openly kissed lips-to-lips before. The effect is that of scripted PDA (public display of affection), apparently aimed to curb people’s perception the congressman wannabe is a womanizer who cheated on his wife in the same hotel where his family stayed.

And Jinky’s open eyes didn’t help.

Sometime ago, US sexologist Diane DeLay’s survey for a book listed reasons of people who think kissing with open eyes sucks.

Ugly sight

What the eyes see can be ugly: Manny isn’t Piolo Pascual, thus the sight may ruin Jinky’s fantasizing. And Manny’s nose, battered by boxing rivals’ punches, looks more huge up close.

Then the angry thought that bothers the offended kisser: “This bastard’s lips also kissed some other woman’s lips and body parts.”

You close your eyes in lovely moments to savor like when you’re in prayer or, yes, when you kiss—but not when you’re kissing someone you momentarily want to strangle.
