World renowned boxing referee Joe ?Fair But Firm? Cortez has been assigned to work this Sunday?s featherweight clash between reigning consensus king Manny Pacquiao and WBA/IBF title holder Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The 60-year-old Cortez, considered as one of the world?s best referees if not the best today, is widely known for his works on such memorable fights as the Julio Cesar Chavez-Oscar De la Hoya I, George Foreman-Michael Moorer, Johnny Tapia-Paulie Ayala, Iran Barkley-Roberto Duran, and the Chavez-Greg Haugen bout which is entered in the Guinness Book of Records for the biggest attendance with 136,000 spectators.
