COMPUBOX ANALYSIS: MARQUEZ vs.PACQUIAO

This one’s a classic contrast in styles. The straight ahead, aggressive Pacquiao, vs. the selective, counter punching Marquez. Pacquiao’s more than just a brawler, however. Remember, he averaged nearly 27 jabs per round vs. Barrera and Ledwaba, who both landed 40% of their punches- just not enough volume, they were too consumed with holding off Pacquiao. Marquez has to be careful not to be too picky with his shots. He lost a ’99 decision to southpaw stinker Freddie Norwood while throwing just 37 punches per round. He was also on the canvas in round two. Pacquiao can adapt. Can Marquez fight at a more up tempo pace if necessary? Will Pacquiao walk into Marquez’s powerful right hand (he’s ko’d 10 of last 11)? This one’s too close to call, but the nod could go to Pacquiao on overall strength and volume of punches.
