THE TOP man in Juan Manuel Marquez?s corner is bracing for a ?war of strategies? when the Mexican world featherweight champion takes on Manny Pacquiao on May 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“Guerra de estrategias,” legendary Mexican trainer Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain said when asked to assess Marquez?s much-awaited face off against Pacquiao with the former?s World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation title belts on the line.
Beristain is regarded as one of the biggest assets in Marquez?s camp. He is not only Mexico?s leading cornerman but he is widely regarded in the fistic world as one of the best, having handled 15 Mexican world champions in a 45-year career.
Beristain is also credited for turning Marquez into the fierce fighter he is now since he took over the managerial rights of the fighter from his father Rafael Marquez Sr. in 1992.
So better believe the man when he vows Marquez will be in tip-top shape come fight night.
