MARCO Antonio Barrera?s bid to regain his once shining stature at the firmament of featherweight division hit a snag at this point after the fallen Mexican featherweight hero was forced to withdraw from his ring return against Ivan Alvarez set on March 19 due to a serious hand injury.
Barrera reportedly suffered a severe sprain in his left hand while sparring in preparation for a bout with Alvarez, which the Mexican construed as his springboard towards a dream rematch with his Filipino conqueror Manny ?The Destroyer? Pacquiao.
But all hopes have gone down for Barrera because after a thorough examination, Mexico City Boxing Commission chief physician Horacio Ramirez Mercado advised the comebacking Mexican warrior to pull out of the fight. Mercado prognosticated that the injury is serious enough that Barrera needs sufficient time to recuperate.
