FILIPINO ring superstar Manny ?The Destroyer? Pacquiao may return to the ring sooner than expected after reports cropped up that Home Box Office (HBO) has rescheduled the uncrowned featherweight king?s forthcoming fight to May 8.
Pacquiao?s HBO date was originally set on May 22, likely against IBF and WBA featherweight title-holder Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico, but in a sudden twist of events, the giant cable network and Top Rank Inc. agreed to switch dates to accommodate the match pitting Floyd Mayweather with Paul Spadafora.
?We were all focused on finding a way to make this thing happen, and that?s when we came up with the idea of switching dates with a fight we?re already working on, if Grand Rapids, was available,? said Top Rank promoter Bob Arum in a report by The Grand Rapids Press.
Top Rank executive vice president Todd Duboef confirmed the availability of the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 22 after making a call with the venue?s general manager Rich MacKeigan.
