Tony “The Punching Postman” Thornton, 49, died on August 30 after a tragic motorcycle accident. Thornton was a very popular fighter out of Philly who ultimately fought Roy Jones, Jr. for the Super Middleweight Championship. He was a mailman during his fighting days and the last 10 years he was a postal supervisor. RIP
OK, the Pacquiao – Cotto press tour is almost over and the fighters will begin the last eight weeks of serious training, soul – searching, and fine-tuning for the Nov.14 fight.
The primary undercard fight Nov. 14 is junior middleweight champ Daniel Santos against # 1 contender Yuri Foreman. This may turn out to be a great fight visually for the fans. Santos is an up and down power puncher and I never really liked Foreman’s style, but this matchup of puncher (Santos) vs. boxer (Foreman) actually works. I’ll be reporting on this fight as it gets closer.

A second meeting of the Boxing Promoters Association on Monday in New York. I’m wondering why invited guest and matchmaker Don Majeski was thrown out of the last one? Hall of Fame promoter Don Chargin and hottie sidekick Lorraine are in from California. I’d pay $50 PPV charge to watch it just so I could see who springs for lunch! Give the public what it wants!
