MANNY Pacquiao’s long search for a mega-buck fight against another world-class rival is over.
The Filipino’s first opponent as the new universal featherweight king will be World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, after all. And the fight will be on May 22 in the United States.
The showdown was approved following a meeting between Bob Arum, who promotes Marquez, Pacquiao’s representative Murad Muhammad and officials of the Home Box Office (HBO) in New York over the weekend.
“I met with Murad Muhammad at the Time Warner office. We have a date from HBO, the 22nd of May,” Arum told reporters.
