AFTER a long layoff, ALA boys Milan Melindo and Michael Domingo will finally be seeing action on Oct. 3 at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Melindo is up against world-rated fighter Ivan Meneses, while Domingo is set to clash with former world title challenger Jose Navarro.
ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer believes that Melindo and Domingo are up for a difficult battle that will determine their careers.
“It will be the biggest test for Michael Domingo, who we all know is a respected fighter in the boxing world; as for Milan, after Rachman, we want him to fight a world rated fighter to see if he is ready to fight for a world title next year, since Ivan Meneses is WBC No.8,” Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu.
Ranked
Aldeguer said they are not targeting any boxing organization for Milendo because he is highly ranked in all four boxing sanctioning bodies.
“It depends on his performance against Meneses. Milan is highly ranked so there’s a possibility that he may fight for a title,” he said.
The 21-year-old Melindo is ranked No.1 in the World Boxing Organization, fifth in the World Boxing Council and third in both the International Boxing Federation and the World Boxing Association.
Milan, who recently won a unanimous decision over former world champion Muhammad Rachman in a rugged battle last March at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino, has an unblemished professional boxing slate of 18-0 with five knockouts, while Meneses has 14-5-1 with eight knockouts.
World title
On the other hand, ALA Promotions is also targeting a world title fight for Domingo.
“For Domingo, that’s the reason that we took the fight against a well known fighter in Jose Navarro that hopefully Domingo will be given a chance to fight for a world title which we think is long overdue,” said Aldeguer.
There is a possibility that the 30-year-old will be fighting for a world title after his fight with Navarro, if there will come an offer.
