Part 2, Fight Week Interview With FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR.
Assorted thoughts of Floyd Mayweather Sr. as his son’s comeback bout against Juan Manuel Marquez draws near…
On Joshua Clottey: “Tell you the truth, Miguel Cotto did not look good against Clottey. Personally, I don’t Manny Pacquiao could beat Clottey. Clottey is too tough and too strong for Pacquiao. Clottey would frustrate Pacquiao.”
On Pacman beating Cotto: “I don’t think Pacquiao is strong enough to beat Cotto really. Pacquiao’s best bet is to bust that left eye of Cotto, the one that opened up against Clottey. That would be Manny’s best bet. If he can open up that eye, he wins.”
On L’il Floyd’s repeated shots about Shane Mosley using steroids: “L’il Floyd ain’t telling no lies about him, is he? My son would handle himself well, very well against Mosley if it ever happens. To be honest, this (Juan Manuel Marquez) is a good fighter and this is the next step.”
Whether Mayweather can only “shine” with a KO or stoppage victory: “I was telling people the other day you don’t need that to really shine in a fight. You shut him out, then you shining. You put a scientific whipping on him, you shining. You ask me if he will be more aggressive in this fight? It’s possible, yeah. Whatever the case may be, early on or later, my son will know when to be aggressive. After he beats this guy, he will go up the ladder from there.”
Why L’il Floyd should dominate Marquez: “I think Li’l Floyd can surely frustrate him. As far as I can see, he can frustrate him every category, every department. L’il Floyd can make all the adjustments also. Other than just coming forward, L’il Floyd is better in every category.”
Why he thinks Pacquiao has grown artificially: “My thing is that Ricky Hatton sure did not follow the game plan but…He did not go by the game plan at all…But I don’t see how Pacquiao took Ricky down with one shot, I don’t see it. L’il Floyd put him down but yeah…”
