Bautista prepares for comeback fight

FOLLOWING a long layoff from a career-threatening wrist injury, ALA boy Rey Bautista will finally be making his comeback in the boxing ring as he faces up-and-coming World Boxing Council International featherweight champion Rachamongkol Sor Pleonchit on Oct. 16 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.

Since his loss last November to tough Mexican warrior Eriberto Ruiz, Bautista hasn’t fought for almost a year because he was recuperating from a wrist injury.

After getting the nod from his doctors, Bautista is excited about his ring return and has been working hard to get back in shape.

“He is ready for Oct. 16. He is close to 80 percent in hitting the bag. On Saturday he’ll go full blast. He’s sparring now mainly to improve his footwork and defense. Next week, we will up the intensity,” said ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer.

Bautista, who will be having his featherweight debut, will be challenging Sor Pleonchit for the WBC International belt.

“This comeback fight is very important for him. We will let him fight for a title so that it will put him up in the world rankings,” said Aldeguer.

The 23-year-old Bautista has an impressive professional boxing slate of 26 wins, two defeats with 19 knockouts while the less experienced Sor Pleonchit has only eight victories and a single loss with five knockouts.

Also seeing action are ALA boys Czar Amonsot (20-3-1, 11 KOs) and Jason Pagara.

Amonsot is up against Thailand-based African Jesus Singwancha (16-7, 8 KOs), while Pagara (19-1, 10 KOs) will trade leathers with Decha Bangkluaygym (29-9-2, 16 KOs).

Jun Intor will also be entertaining the boxing fans with his comedic ring antics as he faces upstart Diover Mangayaay in a four-round special bout.
