UPDATE: BOTH YOEL AND ZAB JUDAH RECONFIRMED THAT ZAB WILL NOT FIGHT ON THE MARQUEZ-MAYWEATHER SHOW SEPT. 19.
“The money is not right,” Zab told me. “I’m not worried about Antonio Diaz, that’s just a tuneup bout for me. Anyway, I plan to have two tune up bout before the year is over.
“Guys I really want to fight are Andre Berto and Juan Diaz. Tell l Haymon and Lou DiBella, who act as Berto’s wardens, to let him out of the bag. ll they do is protect him!”
CLEVELAND–Sometimes you get boxing news in strange ways.
So it was when I checked in this morning at a downtown hotel. I am here as the dressing room and post fight interviewer on the Hector Camacho-Pito Cardona ?Latin Invasion? PPV TV card beaming out of the Wolstein Center Saturday night.
I was fumbling with my computer key card, trying to gain entry to what I thought was my 10th floor room overlooking the baseball home of the Cleveland Indians.
Suddenly, the door opened from the other side and I said hello to a smiling, in fighting trim Super Zab Judah.
I may have been working the opposite corner the night Carlos Baldomir upset Judah’s applecart at Madison Square Garden but I have a fond regard for Zab and the whole boxingcentric Judah clan.
According to promoter Golden Boy and HBO, Judah is part of their Sept. 19 undercard for Juan Manuel Marquez-Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Las Vegas.
But Judah informed me that he has no plans to fight veteran Antonio ?Tono? Diaz or anyone else on that night.
We did not get into the reasons why but since the two time former welterweight champion from Brooklyn wasn?t wearing any casts or looking sickly in any way a good guess may be financial dissatisfaction with his purse.
