Ben Dover, longtime boxing consultant and guru, is now representing the IGBO, Intergalactic Boxing Association.
Dover tells Examiner.com and Boxingconfidential that the fledgling IBGO, which covers all known planets and millions of asteroids, wants to announce that the organization is offering the following belts to the winner of the Manny Pacquiao-Migel Cotto Nov. 14 bout in Las Vegas.
“Unlike the WBO and the WBC,” Dover said, “we are an out of this world group. Having sad that, there is nothing alien about our gaudy title straps.”
“I was reminded of how useful our belts are when Congressman Barney Frank ripped into that right wing wacko who was trashing the great Obama and his health care reform. Speaking to this nut case, Frank said, “On what planet do you spend most of your time?” What a rejoinder! Our belts are for champions who might want to planet hop.”
Among the prized belts Dover said will go to the Pacman-Cotto winner are:
Uranus Belt: This strap is aptly named. Or, as the ringside chant goes, “Up Uranus!”
Martian Mind Meld Belt: Greener than the WBC diadem.
Mercury Belt: Filled with genuine, 100 percent imitation quicksilver. Naugahyde exterior.
From Pluto But Still Goofy Belt: Nothing comical about this one.
Jupiter Jive Belt: Shuck and jive with this one.
Saturn Shiny Belt: Not affiliated with the automaker of same name.
Venutian Victory Belt: Don’t go Venetian blind staring at this dazzler!
Neptune Spongeworthy Belt: Who wouldn’t dive for this beauty?
Asked about sanctioning fees required for the various belts, Dover laughed.
“No, we pay the the recipient to wear our belt. We get a small fee from every person who then views our champion sporting the belt. We call it pay per view strapology.”
Dover said that the IBGO will soon open an office in Nevada, close to the top secret Area 51 US military installation where America’s totally fake walk on the moon scenes were staged.
