Canillas headlines ‘Laban sa Balamban’

YOUNG prospects Larry Canillas and James Bacon are scheduled to see action in next month’s Mayor Alex Binghay’s Cup “Laban sa Balamban” boxing extravaganza at the Balamban Sports Complex.

Canillas (6-1, 5 KOs) is set to trade leathers with Van Bantillan (7-2-1, 4 KOs).

Canillas is a former undefeated prospect, but suffered his first loss, an eighth-round technical knockout against Reman Salim, last May 16. But despite that loss, he is bullheaded to pursue bigger fights. He was impressive in his last fight against veteran journeyman Roger Galicia, whom he knocked out in the second round last July in Bohol.

Bantillan has fought two title fights in Indonesia and Thailand.

However, he failed in his bids against Simson Butar-Butar for the International Boxing Organization Asia Pacific title and Fahsai Sakreerin for the International Boxing Federation Pan Pacific crown.

On the other hand, ALA boy Bacon (8-1, 5 KOs) is up against journeyman Melvin Ayudtud (12-19-2, 4 KOs) and is ready to extend his six-fight winning streak. Ayudtud, on the other hand, is planning to end his losing slump of 12 fights.

Bacon has been undefeated since his loss to William Jorge in 2007. Ayudtud has not won a fight since November 2004.

The highlight of the night will be the special attraction bout, when Jun Intor is expected to entertain the crowd with his comic antics against Tata Tadena.

The other fights in the undercard are between undefeated prospects Marjohn Macahilig and Mark Saloma, and a battle between new professional boxers Milchar Valiente and Ricardo Campana.
