I have heard enough bleeding heart liberal crap since late Saturday night that Nate Campbell was the victim.
Please!
Campbell was getting his butt kicked thoroughly. He’s a crafty veteran, and when he saw the opportunity, he cried foul and might have guaranteed him the following:
A. His purse. B. A rematch and a bigger purse. C. Nobody telling him he fought a horrible fight; that he’s just not at the upper echelon of fighters any more; that it’s time to find a real job. D. A way out of the fight.
Stopping the fight was a no brainer. It’s the interpretation that seems difficult. Round one a toss up. Round two a clear 10-9 Bradley. I didn’t score the third because of the butt early on.
You can see Campbell going back to his corner already pulling out of the fight. He didn’t give his corner a chance to fix the cut. Campbell gave neither the referee or ringside doctor any choice.
Campbell is a fine thespian. He just didn’t want any part of Bradley.
Campbell wasn’t bleeding during the post fight interview.
When a grizzled vet like Campbell lies and is good at it, everybody else suffers. It’s like a theft.
Tim Bradley has to fight him again after a defense against Anthony Peterson. I guess this means he has to qualify to fight Campbell? Shouldn’t Campbell fight a top 10 contender and then the winners meet?
I know my esteemed brother NY Examiner Michael Marley would differ, but he has an obvious conflict of interest. Other than Joan Guzman, nobody is mentioned at the examiner.com coffee machine more than “Soupy” Campbell. Well Maybe Murad and Akbar Muhammad war stories.
But I digress.
The WBO referee looks bad and it probably costs him some big assignments until this blows over. The WBO itself, which can’t get this straight certainly couldn’t be expected to get Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto straight.
The fans that bought tickets to the fight should be considered.
The people paying $12 a month on Showtime saw one fighter at least go eight rounds in the first fight while this one didn’t get to the fourth. If I only had Showtime I’d be looking at the attractive HBO programming other than the potshot programming at Showtime.
Well. I take that back Showtime has the Super Middleweight Tournament coming up.
The casino putting on this fight just wants a little entertainment for its customers and get them back to gambling tables and it ends up with the Jerry Springer Show. The first fight ends in a disappointing quitting exhibition by Junior Witter after eight, but the main event was decided by the third and Campbell did rumble in the first two rounds but was fading fast.
What really amazed me was that WBO president Paco Valcarcel, a friend, an honorable and knowledgeable man, didn’t back referee David Mendoza. Whether he made an error as to whether it was a headbutt or a punch, you back your man publicly. You chew him out privately, but support him publicly.
Valcarcel had hours to consider his statements and watch video replays but made a big mistake in going on the offensive against his own man as if to curry favor with the internet media!
Get Pacquiao out of your dreams Paco!
Whether it be in the military, in the school system or politics, the top dog has to back his people.
I have always felt when a situation like this happens, and it does, that as long as the right fighter won, you do the right thing and Mendoza was correct and I believe made the right call. I’m sure the state of California wants the WBO back again soon.
It happens, but it sucks. Boxing is running out of opportunities.
