In this piece you will get the chance to enter my mad mind, my mind is full of crazy ideas. Today you will read what fights are the badest of the badest from the straws to the heavies, no division is safe. I will touch on every division. These fights listed below are the fights that I would beat the drums for non-stop, I hope that you all enjoy. By the way, when entering my mind, um be sure to not take your first right. If you take that first right that is my Rated R section and you will see a whole lot of Megan Fox in there so please note that the Do Not Enter sign is there for a reason. Ok now, carry on.
Strawweight/Jr. Flyweight- Roman Gonzalez vs. Ivan Calderon- This fight would be a very interesting fight. It will have the very unhitable Calderon who recently looked to have lost a step thus making this fight that much more interesting against the badest man from Nicaragua since the Late, I mean pardon me, since the Great Alexis Arguello. If you haven’t seen Roman do his thing, you really need to. I almost added Giovanni Segura to this against Roman, but I think that Capetillo in his corner is a real bad look for Segura, I’m not saying that there is something fishy going on with the knock out punch of Segura, all I’m saying is that I just don’t like that look.
Flyweight/Jr. Bantamweight- Nonito Donaire vs. Vic Darchinyan The Rematch- When I recently interviewed Nonito, Nonito made it clear to me that he would love to give Vic the rematch to prove to Vic and to the doubters that the first fight was not a fluke. When I picked Agbeko to beat Darchinyan, I picked Agbeko because I really didn’t think that Vic would have the same power at 118 that he had at 115, I think I was right. So let’s see this one again.
Bantamweight- Anselmo Moreno vs. Abner Mares- If Calderon has indeed lost a step, I would then say that Anselmo Moreno is the next guy in line in my opinion of becoming the best pure boxer in the sport. Moreno’s footwork is not bad, his upper body movement is pretty, Moreno glides off of the ropes using the jab and moves out of position very similiar to the great Sweet Pea, Moreno makes it very hard to hit him clean. If anyone can teach you on how to hit someone clean, it’s Nacho Beristain. Nacho happens to train Mares, Mares to me right now has the skills to being able to one day be in the top 10 pound for pound fighters of the world.
Jr. Featherweight- Rafael Marquez vs. Juan Manuel Lopez- Some may feel that Vasquez should be the name here, but Vasquez to me only has a punchers chance, Marquez on the other hand has more than just a punchers chance. I feel that Vasquez would get picked off by the younger beast Lopez, Marquez may also get picked off but his footwork and smarts will keep this one close.
Featherweight- Rocky Juarez vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa- This fight will be entertaining from beginning to end. Will Gamboa’s lightning speed be too much for Juarez? Or will Juarez’s heart be too heavy for Gamboa?
Jr. Lightweight- Jorge Linares vs. Robert Guerrero- For over 2 years now I have wanted to see these two go at it. I aint stopping now, this is a dream match of mine that would be a must see for everyone out there.
Lightweight- Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Edwin Valero- The Master versus the Knockout King! Marquez’s heart and smarts kept him in it against the power of Pacquiao, will it do the same against the power of Valero? I would sure pay to find out.
Jr. Welterweight- Amir Khan vs. Victor Ortiz- Soon as Ortiz gets his mojo back, this fight will be on demand. Two pretty boys with skills going at it for the right to be called future king.
Welterweight- Shane Mosley vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.- It says here that this fight will never happen. You know, I’m still writting it in anyway. The Jack Mosley trained Mosley would be pretty even with the smarty Floyd, but the Richardson trained version of Mosley is a walking Nightmare for Floyd. I was going to jot down Pacquiao vs. Cotto but we are already lucky enough to get that treat.
Jr. Middleweight- Vanes Martirosyan vs. Joe Greene- This is a tough one. With Kirkland locked up and with Sergio Martinez being too good in my opionion for the guys on the top 10 in this division, I picked this fight only on interest. As in, who is what they say they really are? Is Vanes the truth? Is Mean Joe as Mean as they say he is? It would be interesting to find out.
Middleweight- Kelly Pavlik vs. Paul Williams- Can the Punisher punish the Ghost? Will Pavlik’s cold power be too much for Williams? Will Williams work rate be too much for Pavlik? What will fighting someone his own size do to Williams? If these 2 get it on, all these questions will get answered.
Super Middleweight- Allan Green vs. Sakio Bika- Since these 2 are not in the tournament, let’s reward them with a toe to toe fight against each other.
Light Heavyweight- Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson- This one has the teacher versus student feel to it. Experience versus youth. One last masterpiece for Hopkins? Or will Dawson take the throne?
Cruiserweight- Tomasz Adamek vs. Steve Cunningham- This rematch is one that needs to happen, now with Richardson in Cunningham’s corner, the game has changed.
Heavyweight- Chris Arreola vs. David Haye- I hear that Arreola is in talks with possibly fighting Vitali, I say that Vitali right now would be a nightmare for the nightmare. Chris Arreola and David Haye should do battle first for the right to face one of the Klitschko brothers.
