With the controversy over his purse for the battle with legendary featherweight Marco Antonio Barrera cleared up by Pacquiao himself who said he knew what the amount was and was satisfied and had no problems in accepting what he got, Team Pacquiao is now looking at the near future.
Pacquiao himself told Viva Sports in a lengthy conversation at the Josefa Apartments Sunday that he is likely to leave for New York on the 15th to meet with top executives of HBO along with business manager Rod Nazario and Murad Muhammad to discuss his next fight, possibly against WBA/IBF champion Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez said earlier he wants to fight Pacquiao after his IBF mandatory defense against Armenian William Abelyan in late February.
Pacquiao said Marquez was a ?good fighter? but said he was confident he could beat him which is a view shared by trainer Freddie Roach except that Roach would prefer a later date, with Pacquiao first taking on Johnny Tapia or Paulie Ayala in a big money fight.
