Just some quick notes… Miguel Cotto needs to cut a deal with WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel that he puts up his welterweight title against Manny Pacquiao and unless he is totally destroyed in the fight, that he would only drop to No. 1 contender and fight for vacant title again immediately if he loses, after Pacquiao vacates it. This is a win- win situation, not to mention a minimum $5 million for his trouble and a chance to actually win the fight! I’m saying no way, no how, Pacquiao challenges a legitimate junior middleweight at 154 lbs for a record eigth weight division title. Don’t get me talking about a 150 lbs. catchweight! I have dozens of boxers and boxing people on one particular internet social network I enjoy. The person most upset and looking for accurate information in the early frantic discovery hours of the Arturo Gatti death was his Main Events stablemate Vernon Forrest. No. 1 junior welterweight Dmitriy Salita has told me that he “stepped aside” to let the Andreas Kotelnik – Amir Khan fight happen with a guarantee to get the winner immediately. Rumors in media are that the WBA has suddenly lost Salita’s phone number now that popular Khan won the 140 title. Why doesn’t WBA lose John Ruiz’s number. I see a court room in the future here. WBC President Jose Sulaiman has generously replaced the world championship belt stolen from welterweight champion Curtis Cokes in 1966. Curtis, now 72 and training fighters in Dallas, Texas with Erwin “Sparky” Sparks, will be feted before the Mayor and City Council this fall. This is a great story I’ll be reporting on later.
