Despite the controversy surrounding his purse in the ?Clash of the Titans? in which he annihilated legendary featherweight Marco Antonio Barrera last Nov. 15, fights fans around the world continued to hail Manny Pacquiao?s feat and voted him as ?Fighter of the Year.?
In the poll conducted by the world?s leading TV boxing network HBO, Pacquiao has so far obtained 75 percent of the votes cast for ?Fighter of the Year? as against a mere 12 percent for Roy Jones Jr.
Pacquiao is also way ahead in the race for ?Upset of the Year? with 76 percent picking his stunning victory over Barrera as against 12 percent, who chose heavyweight Corie Sanders first round KO of Wladimir Klitschko.
In a poll conducted by Boxing Scene, Pacquiao had a much smaller margin in the quest for ?Fighter of the Year? honors with 42.57 of the votes cast with heavyweight champion James Toney, who beat aging Evander Holyfield and getting 21.67 percent and Roy Jones Jr. picking up 14.92 percent.
