Bob Arum has his priorities and responding to wild allegations and innuendo from his former charge Floyd Mayweather Jr. isn’t among them.
I took strike two, interrupting the Top Rank top dog’s Northern Italy holiday, for a second time Thursday,
Not wishing to incur the wrath of his lovely wife, Lovee, I will not bother Uncle Bob again until he gets back to Los Angeles Sunday for a Monday Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. press conference.
While Mayweather sought to knock the 77 year old Arum into the gutter on an international media conference call Tuesday, Arum is taking the high road in response.
“I am not going to respond to that,” Arum told me. “It’s a waste of time. If I have to respond to this kind of nonsense from Mayweather, then it’s time for me to get out of the business.
“When I get back to LA, I will deal with the (Miguel Cotto-Manny Pacquiao Nov. 14 bout) contract,” Arum said.
Arum told me earlier this week by phone from Italy that he expects Pacquiao to sign a bout contract with a weight limit of 145 pounds.
Pacman lawyer Franklin Gacal has been rattling the cage and saying Team Pacqiuao demands a 143 pound limit or they will look at Sugar Shane Mosley as the next opponent.
“But I won’t waste any time responding to Mayweather. No one pays any attention to what he says anyway. I won’t dignify it.”
Arum and his wife are on an excursion which has taken to such idyllic spots as Lake Como and Lake Garda.
Chavez Jr., who apparently plans to beat up overmatched white guys from all 50 American states, is prepping to fight Jason LeHoullier who claims roots in both Maine and New Hampshire.
Don King, if he promoted him, would be sure to refer to LeHoullier as “my Maine man.”
