Mayweather, Pacquiao, 7 Deadly Sins, 7 Holy Virtues

Floyd Mayweather Jr., former Pound for Pound king of boxing, has turned into a false idol and I think you know what The Bible says about worshipping false idols.

The seventh, eighth and ninth Commandments are a tad frightening on the subject:

7 you shall have no other gods before me.

8 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

9 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and fourth generation of those who reject me,

Somewhere, sometime during his short sabbatical from boxing, Mayweather has seemingly committed all of the Seven Deadly Sins.

They are also commonly referred to as the Capital Vices or the Cardinal Sins.

This is opposed to the venial sins which are less serious. For example, when I put Professor Dumbledore and Bernie Vee on blast, that’s only a venial sin.

Under Pope Gregory and in Dante’s Divine Comedy, the major sins were listed like so:

1. Extravagance. 2. Gluttony 3. Avarice/Greed 4. Discouragement 5. Wrath/Vehement denial 6. Envy 7. Pride

That’s how the Book of Proverbs classified them.

But, and I hope I am not making any religious faux paws here having just come from Sunday Mass, I will stick with the Seven Deadly Sins they way they were originally listed like so:

1. Lust 2. Gluttony 3. Greed 4. Sloth 5. Wrath 6. Envy 7. Pride

Sort of subtexts to all listed above are the following:

1. Haughty eyes 2. A lying tongue 3. Hands which shed innocent blood 4. Heart which devises wicked plots 5. Feet which are swift to run into mischief 6. Deceitful words as to those who uttered them 7. Him that sows discord among brethren

For contrast then, we look to the Seven Holy Virtues, which are:

1. Chastity 2. Temperance 3. Charity 4. Diligence 5. Patience 6. Kindness 7. Humility

This is Part 1 of a sinful series by me.

The questions on the floor for the entire Peanut Galley are these, which Deadly Sins has either Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao committed and, second, which of the Holy Virtues may be attributed to both fighters?

It’s time to sort them out, the saints and the sinners.

Coming next: The Sins of Floyd Joy Mayweather.

Amen, amen, I say to you.
