Topnotch Filipino boxing trainer Nonito Donaire Sr has been added to Team Marvin Sonsona to help prepare the teenager for his September 4 WBO superfly challenge against 37-year-old Jose “Carita” Lopez in Ontario, Canada.
Sonsona’s American promoter Sampson Lewkowicz and his Filipino counterpart Sammy Gello-ani have both agreed that the young fighter needs a step up in the quality of his training, hence they have hired Donaire Sr to do the job.
Donaire Sr will work in tandem with Sonsona’s long-time trainer Jhun Agrabio.
Meanwhile, Donaire Sr also informed that his son Glenn, who enjoys the support of the entire Donaire clan, is set to return to boxing after a year’s rest.
“We are just awaiting for his manager Cameron Dunkin to give him his next fight,” informed Donaire Sr, who is set to arrive in Cebu on Wednesday.
