World Boxing Council founding secretary general Rudy Salud met with a representative of Trans Continental boss Louis Pearlman Saturday and set down some stiff conditions for the planned rematch between International Boxing Federation junior featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao and legendary featherweight king Marco Antonio Barrera.
Salud informed Pearlman?s representative that Pacquiao?s handlers, headed by business manager Rod Nazario, wanted a firm commitment that the fight would push through and set a 5 p.m. Dec. 30 deadline, requiring an $80,000 deposit in ?earnest money? to protect Pacquiao?s interests.
Salud said he had been informed by Nazario that they were scheduled to leave for New York on Jan. 4 for a meeting with Murad Muhammad and top executives of HBO regarding a planned title fight against WBA/IBF champion Juan Manuel Marquez sometime in late March or early April, hence the need for a deposit and a cut-off time.
