If Floyd Joy Mayweather Jr. wanted to take the joy out of his former promoter Bob Arum’s Northern Italy holiday, I think PBF accomplished that on a media conference call Tuesday.
Mayweather, whose anger at and dislike for Arum is so obvious that Stevie Wonder can see it, made the public charge that the head man of Top Rank is terribly exploiting Pinoy Idol Manny Pacquiao.
Without offering any proof or detailing where his information comes from, Mayweather charged that Arum is “bullshitting” Pacquiao financially just like he used to do to Mayweather.
“He is upset with me,” Mayweather said, “because I made a creative move. I bought my way out of my (promotional) contract with him. Arum still owes me money from the (Zab) Judah and (Arturo) Gatti fights.
“I want you all to write this down. Manny Pacquiao gets 27 percent. I get 100 percent of my money and Pacquiao gets 27 percent of his.
“Are you serious?
“When you’re with Richard Scahefer, Leonard Ellerbe and Al Haymon, it’s different,” Mayweather said. “They work for the fighter. With Bob Arum, the fighter works for Bob Arum.”
Although Schaefer, operating head of Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, was on the call, he did not directly address Mayweather’s sketchy allegations.
Then, for good measure, Mayweather took a shot at Golden Boy fighter and VP Sugar Shane Mosley, accusing Mosley of “still using steroids.
“He’s still using steroids. You know the difference between water and Sprite, right? One bubbles up and one doesn’t, right?” Mosley has admitted using illegal steroids before a fight with De La Hoya, steroids he got from the infamous BALCO, but has said under oath that he was unaware of their illegality.
Both De La Hoya and Mayweather became millionaires fighting for Top Rank but both harbor real grudges against the 77-year-old promoter.
