Darchinyan in tough Saturday!
I wrote some nice things about the Pinoy Power series and it comes back to bite me on the tush. The co-main for the inaugural event is Cuban Odlanier Solis vs, American Kevin Johnson. What am I missing here? It’s supposed to feature Pinoy’s, right?
I for one would have liked to see Don King speak at the Michael Jackson tribute at Staples Center. At least he wouldn’t have been auditioning for a job. However, it was not meant to be. I plan to catch the Showtime Network card Saturday night where DK has planned his own tribute on the card featuring Vic Darchinyan and Joseph Agberto. Looks like a good card.
I’m still wondering how Eddie Chambers beat up Alexander Dimitrenko last Saturday. He had dropped lots of weight and was aggressive but one of my mentor’s says it was much more.
“Sonny” says Chamber’s has come to grips with his horrible endurance and standing in front of Dimitrenko with hands up high and otherwise minimal wasteful movement kept him fresh. Something to think about. Keep in mind Chambers had a long distinguished amateur career.
I have to admit the promotion by the UFC for UFC 100 puts most boxing promotions to shame. Probably because boxing promoters sell the show’s off to a casino and a network and wipe their hands of any promoting other than a mid week press conference.
Now that the casinos aren’t bankrolling the shows like they did in the past the promoters do virtually nothing.
Let’s end this silly Nate Campbell nonsense that Manny Pacquiao avoids black fighters. Campbell can’t even make weight for his own world title fights, so, he should worry about keeping his own house in order and not take potshots and the No.1 fighter in the world who takes on all challengers.
Pacquiao, as my New York brother Mike Marley borrowed from me, had a black/muslim promoter in Murad Muhammad. Murad also promoted one of the recent pound for pound champions in Roy Jones, Jr.
A state -of- the- art 50,000 seat, domed football (soccer) stadium has been completed in the Ukraine. Home of the Klitschko’s boxing dynasty. This is also the home of The Giant Nikolai Valuev I’m wondering if a promoter there would put up the enormous site fee to cover either Klitschko vs. Valuev. This would be the ideal role for Murad and Akbar Muhammad – no relation. In fact I’d pay to watch them promote it!
Happy 43rd birthday to “Jesse” James Leija in San Antonio, Texas. Still one of the good guys in boxing.
I’m waiting for a lightning bolt of information from Lester Bedford in Houston, who is coordinating the press conference today for the upcoming Juan Diaz vs. Paulie Malignaggi fight at the Toyota Center.
