Fight with Manny Pacquiao Could Help Mayweather fend off IRS

A date with Manny Pacquiao could fend off the reported IRS investigations into the possible tax liabilities of the former pound-for-pound king who said that the IRS tax rumor is just that- rumors. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is rumored to be in financial trouble and reported to be in collision with the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS). But he said that it?s nothing more than rumors.

Yahoo news reports: The IRS hit the former pound-for-pound boxing king with a lien in October for $6.17 million in unpaid taxes from 2007, according to the Clark County Recorder in Las Vegas. A New Jersey Superior Court judgment from the same year shows he owes $193,000 in state taxes there. Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather?s manager, disputed the documents and said he believed they were inaccurate.

?Floyd Mayweather does not have a problem with the IRS,? Ellerbe told the AP on Thursday. ?He doesn?t owe the IRS $6.1 million ? I don?t (care) what a lien says.? Ellerbe added.

The former pound-for-pound king was reported to have made more than $50 million during his last 18 months in boxing before retiring with an unblemished record in his professional boxing career.

Mayweather claimed that he made he made 48 million last year without fighting, referring to his advertising commercials and TV appearances. He was also reported to have received $20 million for his appearances on WEE? s ?WrestleMania? last year.

The undefeated boxer is due to square off with Juan Manuel Marquez on September 19 in what boxing fans say a prelude to a match with the current pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.

The Pacquaio-Mayweather match has been the most talked about boxing match since Mayweather announced his return to boxing after his 19 month retirement.
