IT’s green and go for yet another superbattle for the Filipino king of the world’s featherweights.
The reigning “people’s featherweight champion” and Ring Magazine’s featherweight king Manny Pacquiao is slated to battle World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight champ Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez of Mexico in a 12-round titular encounter in Las Vegas either in the last week of March or in early April.
The 25-year-old Pacquiao (38-2-1, 30 KOs) will stake his pound-for-pound billing in this fight, while Marquez (42-2, 33 KOs) risks his two world title belts in a fight that has “Fight of the Year” written all over it.
The southpaw Pacquiao is leaving for the United States this Friday to sign the contract for the fight, where he will reportedly get one million dollars (about 55 million pesos) as purse.
“Aalis na ako sa Dec. 26 para mag-sign ng contract,” Pacquiao told the Inquirer at ringside while cheering for his brother Bobby’s RP title defense against Renato Inal Saturday night in Subic.
