The year in boxing had some strong performances.
Cory Spinks, James Toney, Roy Jones Jr., Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley had a wonderful year.
In September, the biggest box office star, Oscar De La Hoya, lost to Mosley. Out of the ring, De La Hoya’s promotional firm emerged as a force by telecasting a pay-per-view show and bringing excitement to cities, such as Fort Worth, with competitive fight cards.
The heavyweight division continues to look bleak with its lack of high-level opponents. The lower-weight divisions, junior middleweight to super bantamweight, are where the best fighters and fights remain.
