Should my response to Edwin G. Espejo of Philboxing be flight or fight?
I?ve just finished 10 hours of flying back home from Rio so I say no mas for flight.
And, though I hate to disappoint you spectators, I don?t see any need to keep digging body shots into the ?meat? of my adversary.
Instead, in the spirit of Dr. ML King, of Nelson Mandela and of a future RPI Congressman and possibly someday President named Manny Pacquiao, I offer Espejo a White Gorilla paw across the table of brotherhood.
Reasonable people can disagree reasonably and this is what I know I have ?elected? to do in this particular case.
My impression of Espejo as a Pacman hater was, I think, erroneous. But he remains a Doubting Thomas when it comes to the Pinoy Idol?s political aspirations. Clearly, I know more about boxing than the scribe and he knows more than I will ever know about Filipino politics ranging from the penthouse to the cesspool.
Like I said before, it?s Megamanny who must prove himself to the electorate. I note that bandwagon jumpers are flocking to his Sarrangani campaign even now.
Everybody loves a winner. That is just a universal thing.
As far as referring to my weight, Espejo should be informed that I?ve dropped 40 pounds in recent months and am in ?dog? shape.
But, at my age, I prefer to fight with the pen and the computer.
No one, Filipino or otherwise, should be afraid to criticize Pacquiao. He is a human being, a great fighter and a national icon, but not a paragon of perfection?except in the ring lately.
I think it?s healthy when scribes such as Recah Trinidad and Espejo take some journalistic jabs at Pacman.
For his part, Manny does not seem shy about sparring with media critics. And that is also a good thing.
When he is elected and Sarrangani insiders say he will win in a landslide, Pacquiao will be put under the scalding hot lamp of political criticism.
Any decision or move he makes while in office will please some and offend others.
At the end of the day, I see nothing for Espejo and I to rumble on about really.
Here, Double E, have half of my balut, a portion of my lumpia.
It?s all good at the table of brotherhood.
Unfortunately, we have had to bar one misanthrope from our table of peace and harmony.
Yes, Bernie Vee, you are vertboten.
You know that rhymes with rotten?
