I don?t know if there is trouble in River City. But maybe there is a problem in Pacland.
Or at least a crossed wire because The Business Mirror has reported that Manny Pacquiao wants his bout against Miguel Cotto to be held on Oct. 14 and not on the Nov. 14 day that promoter Bob Arum targeted for the MGM Grand property in Las Vegas.
The Mirror said no reason was given by Pacman as to why he prefers the earlier date but an obvious guess is he wants to be able to concentrate on his political activities sooner rather than later. (Reuben Terrado wrote this story.)
Arum has already said his hired hand Michael Koncz has all the pertinent money and other details to Manny for the Cotto matchup so I can?t understand why Packy would be talking October.
Again, as to Manny?s political plans, that?s just a guess. The mid-October date could just be wishful thinking on Manny?s part.
Maybe Know It All comment poster, Bernie Vee, has the ready answer as to the conflict on Pacquiao dates.
Speaking of dates, concern is growing inside Golden Boy Promotions as June turns into July and there has been no word from the Floyd Mayweather Jr. camp as to whether he can be medically fit to rumble with Juan Manuel Marquez on Sept. 19.
Richie Rich Schaefer, major domo for Oscar De La Hoya at GBP, wants that date because it coincides with Mexico?s most important holiday, Independence Day.
Don King used to grab the Cinco de Mayo and Indepdence Day dates when he had Mexican icon Julio Cesar Chavez as his cash cow, particularly when Mike Tyson languished in an Indiana prison.
Then the two holidays became fight dates of choice for Oscar.
If Mayweather does not flash the green light, and tell Schaefer his sore ribs will be good to go Sept. 19, PBF-JMM could get pushed back to November.
HBO is also increasingly concerned as to the lack of response from the Mayweather camp on the medical issue.
Some wonder if Mayweather is looking for a weigh in against the tiny Mexican ringmaster or a way out due to tepid box office and mass market response?
