Big Town weeps if Little Guy Pacquiao skips trip

There is no joy in Mudville.

No joy in Manhattan, our little 12 mile long by three mile wide island of sophistication, either.

It?s not the Mighty Casey has struck out. The sadness, the melancholy mood, is caused by the breaking news that Megamanny is not flying out of Manila. Megamanny, it is said, will not grace NYC with his charismatic presence for Friday?s Boxing Writers Dinner and Saturday?s Clottey-Cotto fight card.

The boogie has got up and gone from the Boogie Down Bronx.

There is royal pain being felt across the Borough of Queens.

Brooklyn may be ?in the house? but Pacquiao won?t be, causing the BK to be bummed out.

They?re sick in Staten Island and I can?t say that I blame them.

I refuse to take ?no Manny? for an answer.

I have some probing questions that Pacman would enjoy at least as much as his next root canal.

I?m going to continually rub the head of my Pacquiao Bobblehead Doll for good luck.

Maybe Pacman will change him mind and jump on that Northwest flight out of Manila.

This is New York, New York, so nice they named it twice.

Come on Pacman, we need you here this weekend.

There are other fighters, sure. Coach Freddie Roach is not chopped liver.

But the spring in our step is gone. The sun is hiding behind the clouds.

There is no joy in Mudville but, as Bob Arum would say, who cares?

It?s the lack of joy in the five boroughs that concerns me.

It?s a Manny Malady.

Let?s hope the ?he?s not coming? buzz is just Manny drama.

The City That Never Sleeps is feeling drowsy right now.
