No excuses.
No excuses for Manny Pacquiao, no excuses for Floyd |Mayweather Jr.
Neither of these two great ring talents will have any foreseeable excuses if their super bout is put together for next year.
I would not want to see Pretty Boy lose to Megamanny and then blame it on his ribs being just so tenderoni.
You know, I had to protect my lower torso and that is how I got clocked and clobbered by the infamous Manila Ice right hook to the jaw.
And I would not want to see Mayweather being able to blame a Pacman loss on ring rust, something which he has as a valid excuse if and when he goes through with his comeback bout against Manny nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez.
On the flip side, and no I did not say Flip side, I think his next political foray, the quest to conquer Sarranganni, will be somewhat on Megamanny?s mind as he goes into a Nov. 14 bout against Miguel Cotto.
I don?t see it as any huge distraction for Pacquiao vis a vis the battle with the Boricua Bomber but it could be a minor factor.
After he beats Cotto, who is lacking something he may have left behind when he got thumped by Antonio Margarito. then Pacman should win his Congressional race in a landslide.
He should have two landslides back to back.
Actually, make that four drubbings in a row, four landslides as Pacman also made the earth quake under the not too nimble feet of De La Hoya and Hatton.
Pacquiao, once in office after an election where he won?t be outslugged by Dazzling Darlene Antonino-Custodio, can then put his political career into cruiser control.
I want to see both Manny and Floyd be able to fully concentrate on such a momentous fight.
This could turn out to be the most eaglerly anticipated fight since Ali-Frazier I in 1971. And they could give it the same, simple but so eloquent nickname.
THE FIGHT.
That was the promotional label attached for the March 8, 1971, classic first meeting between Joe and Moe at Madison Square Garden.
THE FIGHT.
They should reuse it when Mayweather and Pacquiao finally stand in opposite corners.
So let Mayweather deal, as best he can, against JMM, the tiny Mexican fellow. And let Pacman outspeed and outhit the reduced version of Cotto.
It?s all good, it?s all just more hot sauce for the promotional pot.
Coming in 2010, THE FIGHT.
The loser will be be allowed no excuses.
That?s the fight that ultimately proves if Mr. Pacquiao is, indeed Superman masquerading as mild-mannered reporter, Clark Kent.
