ALA BOY Mark Jason Melligen will once again be tested by his US promoter, Top Rank Promotions, as he is slated to face veteran Mexican fighter Fabian Luque on June 20 in Texas.
Before fighting a big bout in a huge boxing extravaganza in August along with fellow Filipino pugilist International Boxing Federation flyweight king Nonito Donaire Jr., the 23-year-old Melligen must first conquer another tough Mexican warrior.
Although Luque doesn?t have a desirable professional boxing record of 21 wins, eight defeats and four draws with 12 knockouts, ALA Promotions isn?t taking him lightly. He lost his last three fights via stoppages,
?We?re treating each fight as an important fight,? said ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer.
Luque has fought the likes of undefeated world-rated fighter Dimitri Salita and unbeaten Canadian Dierry Jean.
Melligen, a former amateur boxing standout, has been training in the Roger Mayweather?s Gym and the Top Rank Gym along with trainer Tony Martin.
He has been sparring with hard-hitting Marcos Maidana.
Melligen had a successful US debut when he stopped Mexican upstart Gerardo Cesar Prieto in last March. He was signed by Top Rank Promotions in a four-year contract after a dominating performance over onetime Manny Pacquiao sparring partner Ramon Montano last May.
