Fans and ordinary citizens waved flags of different sizes, colorful handkerchiefs and streamers as they gave boxing champion Manny Pacquiao a hero?s welcome when he arrived at Manila City Hall yesterday to join the flag-raising ceremony.
Pacquiao, the reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) superbantamweight champion, thanked all his kababayan (fellow Filipinos) for the prayers that helped him defeat Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera in San Antonio, Texas last Nov. 16.
“Salamat po sa lahat ng nagdasal para manalo ako,” Pacquiao, in white long sleeved shirt and maong pants, told the cheering crowd.
