Melligen to fight in Texas

US-BASED ALA fighter Mark Jason Melligen will once again step foot in the ring for his third fight in the US on June 20 in Texas.

?He will be fighting on June 20 in Texas but there is no opponent discussed as of now,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu. ?They will be giving him another good opponent like (Ramon) Montano to test him.?

The 22-year-old Melligen had a successful US debut and stopped unheralded Gerardo Cesar Prieto in the fifth round.

He followed it up with a unanimous decision victory over former Manny Pacquiao spar mate Ramon Montano last May on the eve of Pacquiao?s fight with Ricky Haton.

Experience

Adeguer said Melligen has gained a lot of experience and has honed his skills because of his sparring at Roger Mayweather?s Gym with former world title contender Marcos Rene Maidana, who is preparing for a clash with up-and-coming boxing prospect Victor Ortiz.

?He has been doing well in training,? said Aldeguer. ?He has improved a lot because of his sparring partner.?

Aldeguer said after Melligen?s battle in June, he will be fighting in a big card in Top Rank?s proposed double-world championship boxing event in the Philippines. The card will be headlined by International Boxing Federation light flyweight titlist Brian Viloria and World Boxing Organization mini flyweight king Donnie Nietes.

Unification

On the other hand, AJ Banal and Nietes, along with coaches Edito and Edmund Villamor, will be flying to the US on June 13.

They will be both training in Freddie Roach?s Wild Card Gym.

Banal is scheduled to fight in the undercard of the July 18 mega bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez, while Nietes is preparing for a possible a unification match with interim champion Manuel Vargas.
