ALA Promotions is eager to find out who AJ Banal is up against for his July 18 undercard fight in Las Vegas, so they can work out the necessary preparations.
Banal will be fighting in the Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez battle.
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer wants to know Banal?s opponent before he leaves for the US on June 13. ?We need to know as soon as possible so that we can scout the opponent and formulate our game plan here in Cebu,? said Aldeguer. ?We hope they will inform us this week.?
Banal will be flying to the US along with World Boxing Organization (WBO) mini-flyweight champion Donnie Nietes and coaches Edmund and Edito Villamor. Both fighters will be training in Freddie Roach?s Wild Card Gym.
Banal will be fighting a different opponent after ALA Promotions turned down a world title tussle with WBO super flyweight champion Jose Lopez.
ALA Promotions declined Golden Boy Promotions? proposition because they didn?t want Banal to be forced to make weight in a category he has already outgrown.
Meanwhile, Nietes? unification fight against interim champion Manuel Vargas may once more be moved to Mexico on July 18.
The Nietes-Vargas clash was originally slated in Mexico but was moved to Las Vegas because of the A(H1N1) outbreak there.
Aldeguer said he recently received an e-mail from international matchmaker Sampson Lewkow-icz saying that Mexican promoter Fernando Bel-tran is pushing for the fight to return to Mexico.
Top Rank was also planning to hold the fight here in the Philippines, in a double world championship event, where he will be slated along with International Boxing Federation light flyweight titlist Brian Viloria.
