In a display of grit and guts, underdog Manny Pacquiao blasted Marco Antonio Barrera into submission in the 11th round of a duel for the consensus people?s world featherweight boxing championship as a highly-partisan, pro-Mexican crowd was hushed in silence at the Alamodome in San Antonio last Saturday night (Sunday morning, Manila).
The oddsmakers who sold Pacquiao short took it flush on the chin like Barrera who was floored in the third, sixth and 11th rounds before trainer-brother Jorge Barrera rushed in to force referee Laurence Cole to stop the carnage.
“I?m surprised he lasted that long. Very early on I knew I was going to knock him out,” said the Filipino champ.
