Promoter prefers Mexico

MEXICAN promoter Fernando Beltran has been pushing to bring the world title fight between World Boxing Organization mini-flyweight king Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes and interim WBO mini-flyweight titlist Manuel ?Chango? Vargas to Mexico.

After ALA Promotions declined a May 16 fight schedule because they deemed it too soon for Nietes, who just fought last Feb.28 in Mexico, Beltran sent another proposition to hold the fight in June, as what Nietes? camp suggested.

?We got a letter from Sampson Lewkowicz that they agreed to move the fight to June. But they are still pushing for it to be in Mexico,? ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview.

Record

Nietes successfully defended his world title against Erik Ramirez via a 12th round unanimous decision, where he floored the young Mexican challenger four times, in the first, fifth, ninth and 12th rounds.

Vargas fought on an earlier date, Feb. 14, when he walked out with a unanimous decision victory over Walter Tello.

Aldeguer is still continuing talks with broadcasting network ABS-CBN to bring the fight to the Philippines.

?We also have a date for the fight scheduled here. We?re just waiting for the network,? said Aldeguer.

Option

If ABS-CBN won?t support ALA Promotions in holding the world title match here in the Philippines, then the Cebu-based promotional outfit has no choice but to agree with Beltran?s offer, for Nietes to defend his title in Mexico.

?We have no choice but to go there. They are very desperate to have it there,? said Aldeguer.

ALA Promotions is still waiting for the decision, which will be announced this week.
