DAVAO CITY, Philippines – To keep the youth away from the illegal drugs and promote boxing at the same time, House Speaker Prospero Nograles has embarked on regular weekly boxing tournaments in the different villages in Davao City in Mindanao.
The boxing program dubbed as Oplan Kamao offers rewards and training to promising young boxers, particularly in the First Congressional District to which he belongs.
His son, lawyer Karlo Nograles, who is also the solon?s chief of staff, said the lawmaker revived the program to ensure the youth in their district will be away from illegal drugs.
“Through this sport we are also hopeful to find new Manny Pacquiao,” he said. He said the solon has prioritized the youth because they are the future of the country.
“We need to provide the things needed by the youth like sports and education programs for them to have a bright future,” he said.
