MANILA, Philippines?Filipino upstart Bernabe Concepcion will have to wait a little longer to get a shot at American WBO featherweight titlist Steven Luevano.
Luevano pulled out of his May 2 showdown with Concepcion, after suffering an injury on his torso while training late last week, an ESPN.com report quoting the American fighter?s manager Cameron Dunkin said.
The Luevano-Concepcion duel would have been one of the main supporting bouts in the fight card headlined by Filipino ring hero Manny Pacquiao and Briton Ricky Hatton.
Concepcion, Internet reports said, also sustained a ?slight injury? on his shoulder while training at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.
Top Rank, which is co-promoting the fight with Golden Boy Promotions, is eyeing WBC super featherweight titleholder Humberto Soto as a replacement for Luevano. If the bout pushes through, either Soto and Concepcion would have to adjust in weight since both fighters campaign in different weight classes.
The 21-year-old Concepcion (28-1-1, 16 KOs) is coming off a sixth-round knockout victory over Kenyan Sande Otieno last January at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
