Bob Arum feels John Duddy, Oscar de la Hoya and Manny Pacquiao are all possible opponents for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Chavez Jr outpointed Argentine opponent Luciano Leonel Cuello on Saturday night over ten rounds to increase his unbeaten record to 39-0-1 (29 KOs).
Although it remains to be seen whether Chavez Jr possesses the talent to be competitive at elite level, due to his Hall of Fame lineage, Chavez Jr is a big draw for Top Rank and seems set for a big fight later this year.
De La Hoya has long been touted as an opponent due to his past fight with Chavez Jr’s father and him being a beatable, but big-name, opponent with which he could bring down the curtain of his glittering career.
Duddy is also a natural opponent due to his big support on the East Coast of America, but Pacquiao’s name has not been mentioned before due to the great size difference between them.
However, Arum, who promotes both men, believes that, like with Pacquiao’s fight against De La Hoya, the magnitude of the event could make it a worthwhile exercise.
“There is John Duddy, there is Oscar De La Hoya if he continues to fight and there is third which is a little different because of the size difference but it would be the biggest fight of the year, with Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Manny Pacquiao – Mexico vs. the Philippines,? Arum said.
