BY THE WAY….
MANNY PACQUIAO reportedly signed a letter of retraction, overruling an earlier decision of his to award the rights to his May 2 fight with Ricky Hatton to ABS-CBN. Peter Chanliong, Solar Sports topgun, who flew expressly to California to meet with Pacquiao, said he sensed the boxer felt very sorry for what he did. All?s well that ends well, Chanliong prefaced his brief remarks during a media briefing Monday at the GMA complex in Quezon City. The past days had seen Solar Sports, GMA, and ABS-CBN on a wild rollercoaster ride over the problem with Pacquiao. Chanliong believed the boxer was simply misguided by certain elements around him. ?What?s important is that we are once more a happy family with our partner, GMA,? he said.
There were talks Pacquiao thought of moving to ABS-CBN, which reportedly offered full media support to his congressional bid in the 2010 election. Pacquiao is reportedly eyeing a seat in Congress, representing one of the districts of his hometown, General Santos City. As a GMA talent, Pacquiao has been assured by the network nationwide publicity by TV if that?s what he wants. He has two running shows at the moment, ?Pinoy Records? and ?Totoy Bato?. Atty. Felipe Gozon also announced that Pacquiao will also star in his own sitcom, a teleserye, concerts in the US and Canada. GMA will also help him hold boxing clinics around the country. All these efforts can make Pacquiao a star bigger than any multi-media superstar since Nora Aunor. Let?s hope people won?t tire of him as a result of overexposure, or flippant decision-making.
People said a sweet show far removed from scandal and controversy wouldn?t last in the contemporary TV landscape. The ?Sweet Life?, hosted primarily by Lucy Torres-Gomez, proves to be an exception. This week, The Sweet Life is celebrating its second anniversary on QTV-11 with a week-long series of special presentations. Some of the guests include Robin Padilla, Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera, Ogie Alcasid, and Marian Rivera. No truth to rumors Lucy?s show is folding up.
