ALA wants Nietes? defense in RP

ALA Promotions is optimistic that its media partner ABS-CBN can help bring the world championship battle of World Boxing Organization (WBO) mini flyweight king Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes and interim WBO mini flyweight titleholder Manuel ?Chango? Vargas to the Philippines.

ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer flew to Manila last week to speak with ABS-CBN about holding Nietes? fight in the Philippines.

?I hope they?ll help us put up the fight here in the Philippines. If not, we have no choice but to go to Mexico,? Aldeguer said in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu.

If ABS-CBN and ALA Promotions can?t bring the fight here in the Philippines, then the fight will be held in Mexico under the promoter Fernando Beltran.

Aldeguer said the fight will be finalized after Holy Week, when they will know if ABS-CBN will be backing ALA Promotions in holding the world championship here.

If the fight will be held in Mexico, Aldeguer said Nietes should work harder because it will be a much more difficult fight than his previous fight in Oaxaca, Mexico against Erik Ramirez.

Nietes? fight against Vargas will unify the WBO mini-flyweight crown and the interim WBO titles.

?It will be a crucial fight for him. He needs to be more aggressive and fight harder than what he did against Ramirez. He has to impress the judges more,? said Aldeguer.

Unanimous decision

Nietes won by unanimous decision in his second title defense in Mexico last Feb. 28 after sending Ramirez to the canvas four times?in the first, fifth, ninth and 12th rounds.

Vargas won the interim title after knocking out Daniel Reyes in Mexico last year. The 28-year-old warrior successfully defended the interim crown last Feb. 12 against Walter Tello.
